Evening Prayer reflections January 13th.

+JMJPT+
This was some of the readings tonight, Thursday January 13th, 2005, from the Divine Office (the Liturgy of the Hours). After my last posting I thought these readings to be especially relevant. Please take a moment and read these short readings and pray and also read my last posting on depression and illness ect. I think it is so wonderful that God will give me and all of us just what we need when we need it, such as the case of the readings tonight in evening prayer for me. May God the Father of all Mercy and Love richly bless you and those in your life and may Mary keep you beneath the protective mantle of her love and grace. Please remember to pray for the Holy Father and his intentions and please say a prayer for my daughter and I and those in our lives (thanks!!).

Psalms
Chapter 30

1
1 2 A psalm. A song for the dedication of the temple. Of David.
2
I praise you, LORD, for you raised me up and did not let my enemies rejoice over me.
3
3 O LORD, my God, I cried out to you and you healed me.
4
4 LORD, you brought me up from Sheol; you kept me from going down to the pit.
5
Sing praise to the LORD, you faithful; give thanks to God's holy name.
6
For divine anger lasts but a moment; divine favor lasts a lifetime. At dusk weeping comes for the night; but at dawn there is rejoicing.
7
5 Complacent, I once said, "I shall never be shaken."
8
LORD, when you showed me favor I stood like the mighty mountains. But when you hid your face I was struck with terror.
9
To you, LORD, I cried out; with the Lord I pleaded for mercy:
10
6 "What gain is there from my lifeblood, from my going down to the grave? Does dust give you thanks or declare your faithfulness?
11
Hear, O LORD, have mercy on me; LORD, be my helper."
12
You changed my mourning into dancing; you took off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness.
13
With my whole being I sing endless praise to you. O LORD, my God, forever will I give you thanks.

Psalms
Chapter 32

1
Of David. A maskil. 1 Happy the sinner whose fault is removed, whose sin is forgiven.
2
Happy those to whom the LORD imputes no guilt, in whose spirit is no deceit.
3
2 As long as I kept silent, my bones wasted away; I groaned all the day.
4
For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength withered as in dry summer heat. Selah
5
Then I declared my sin to you; my guilt I did not hide. I said, "I confess my faults to the LORD," and you took away the guilt of my sin. Selah
6
3 Thus should all your faithful pray in time of distress. Though flood waters threaten, they will never reach them.
7
You are my shelter; from distress you keep me; with safety you ring me round. Selah
8
I will instruct you and show you the way you should walk, give you counsel and watch over you.
9
Do not be senseless like horses or mules; with bit and bridle their temper is curbed, else they will not come to you.
10
Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but love surrounds those who trust in the LORD.
11
Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you just; exult, all you upright of heart.

1 Peter
Chapter 1: v. 3-9

3
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4
to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you
5
who by the power of God are safeguarded through faith, to a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the final time.
6
4 In this you rejoice, although now for a little while you may have to suffer through various trials,
7
so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold that is perishable even though tested by fire, may prove to be for praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
8
Although you have not seen him you love him; even though you do not see him now yet believe in him, you rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy,
9
as you attain the goal of (your) faith, the salvation of your souls.
