May God bless and protect the USMC always!! Semper Fidelis!! Posted by Hello
Today was one of those days when it would have been easy not to blog but I need to do this to show the ups and days like today which- let us say 'not so up'- so here is my reflection on today.
We get to go back today in the Readings and look at the Gospel of St. Matthew and see the beatitudes. The readings hit home for me today in several ways and I belive the two word description that I take from today's readings is COURAGE and HOPE. There are days and times when we have to rise to the occasion and have courage to face what ever obstical is in our way and the only way to really consistantly find that courage regardless of our circumstnaces is through faith in Christ Our Lord. The second word is closely associated with courage and that is HOPE and actually I belive that without HOPE that courage is not as easily abtainable. Regardless of our trials - regardless of the circumstances no matter how bleak the picture seems to be if we have HOPE in Christ then we will get through the tuff times. Today was one of those days for me that God allows me to endure a little bit of suffering so that through it I might learn some invaluble lessons. I remember from my days in the USMC bootcamp we had to memorize certain acronyms for various things. One of the terms I memorized was for the leadership traits of a Marine and I still draw on that that term today and just apply it to my life these days through the lens of Christ. "J.J. D.I.D. T.I.E. B.U.C.K.L.E." which stands for Judgment. Justice. Depedability. Initiative. Decisiveness. Tact. Integrity. Enthusiasim. Bearing. Unselfishness. Courage. Knowledge. Loyality. Endurance. Now look at each of those and think about it and that is what is described in today's readings and throughout the Bible except applied through the lens of faith. My time in the Corps was just preparation for the larger battles that I ended up facing and will face in the future. I belive, in fact I know that had it not been for the Marine Corps and the lessons I learned there I would not have been able to overcome future obsticals and I may not have even found the Catholic Church for it was there in a little chapel in Camp Pendelton that I saw from a Navy Chaplain/ Priest the wonder of the Mass and the Eucharist. I am forever in debt to the Corps and especially to the Navy Catholic Chaplains who serve with highest honor and who taught me so many valuble lessons that I still learn from today and most of all for leading me to Our Lord. To my brother and sister Marine's who serve with honor throughout the globe remember these days and the lesson you learn and also thank your Chaplain for his service- you will never forget what honor you share in wearing that Eagle, Globe and Anchor or in the Cross that the Chaplain wears on his uniform. Signs of great Courage, signs of great Hope and for me signs of great Faith!
Pray please for all men and women in uniform of all branches of service and especially today remember all Marines and all the Chaplains who serve them.

Monday of the Tenth Week in Ordinary Time

Reading I
2 Cor 1:1-7

Paul, an Apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God,
and Timothy our brother,
to the Church of God that is at Corinth,
with all the holy ones throughout Achaia:
grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Father of compassion and the God of all encouragement,
who encourages us in our every affliction,
so that we may be able to encourage
those who are in any affliction
with the encouragement with which we ourselves are encouraged by God.
For as Christ's sufferings overflow to us,
so through Christ does our encouragement also overflow.
If we are afflicted,
it is for your encouragement and salvation;
if we are encouraged,
it is for your encouragement,
which enables you to endure the same sufferings that we suffer.
Our hope for you is firm,
for we know that as you share in the sufferings,
you also share in the encouragement.

Responsorial Psalm
Ps 34:2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9

R. (9a) Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
I will bless the LORD at all times;
his praise shall be ever in my mouth.
Let my soul glory in the LORD;
the lowly will hear me and be glad.

R. Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
Glorify the LORD with me,
let us together extol his name.
I sought the LORD, and he answered me
and delivered me from all my fears.

R. Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.

Look to him that you may be radiant with joy,
and your faces may not blush with shame.
When the poor one called out, the LORD heard,
and from all his distress he saved him.

R. Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
The angel of the LORD encamps
around those who fear him, and delivers them.
Taste and see how good the LORD is;
blessed the man who takes refuge in him.

R. Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.

Mt 5:1-12

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain,
and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him.
He began to teach them, saying:

"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the land.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you
and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me.
Rejoice and be glad,
for your reward will be great in heaven.
Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you."
