Saint Ephrem pray for us all and lead us to Christ Our Lord through the Immaculate Heart of Mary!! Posted by Hello
+JMJPT+
The first reading from today's Mass reminds me of my thoughts I posted a few days ago and at other times too when I think about why people who are exposed to the Truth and Love in Christ and His Bride and still wander through the world in darkness. I even hear about cradle Catholics who veer off course and get caught up in the latest new age spirituality of the time. I wonder why and then I think of my own journey and what happens when I take my eyes off of Christ and then veer off course. The further we get out of Light and Truth then the more our eyes and hearts are 'veiled' and the easier it is to veer off even further. I recently thought of this after a time in deep prayer before Our Lord and I thought I would share it with you as I think it is relevant to what I am talking about. I used to love to go with my uncle out to his farm in the country and we would take the little highway which was smooth and easy to drive on to the dirt road and drive for several miles on the bumpy rocky gravel dirt road to the farm. After a few minutes on the dirt road as ruff as it was it became 'normal' feeling to bounce around in the truck and things would seem 'ok'. Then we would get to the farm and drive out into the pasture to feed the horses and cows- well now we were really bouncing around quite a bit and after a while that too seemed to be the norm. It was only when we made it back to the smooth pavement of the highway and then the really smooth streets of town that I realized just how bumpy and uncomfortable the dirt road not to mention the pasture was and I appreciated the smooth streets of town more than ever and realized how hard the other 'paths' were. I belive that is what happens when we take our eyes off of Christ and His Truth and get away from the Sacraments of the Church. After a while the lesser roads and even the off road experiances our souls go through seem normal. So, in effect, my sences were veiled by the experiance of those lesser roads and paths to the point that they felt normal even though my body was bouncing around and pretty uncomfortable. It is hard to imagine the ease of a city street when you are busy bouncing around in a pasture or even a old dirt road. It is hard to imagine the Glory of Christ and His Bride when you are lost on a lesser path or even the pastures of life. There is a easy way, there is a perfect way and a True Way in Christ and His Holy Catholic Church if we just turn around and look on our maps and find Him waiting for us. He is The Way, The Truth and The Life. We have only to trust in Christ Our Lord. The readings for the Mass for today are posted below and there are several links to guide you. Please remember to pray for Our Holy Father Benedict XVI and all the Bishops and all Priests and Deacons and those in concecrated life and for the whole universal Church. Please continue to remember me and those in my life in your prayers also. Since today is the Feast of St. Ephrem I have posted his icon along with some links so you can read up more on his holy life and be inspired to also follow Christ as he did so well.
On a side note I am having trouble with the code I need to get which allows you to click a link and open a new window without loosing this site and I will try to fix that today if I can to make it easier to read the posting and still see the suggested links.
May Our Lord richly bless you and those in your life and may Our Lady of Mount Carmel (who we celebrate in a few more weeks) keep you always beneath her protective mantle of love and grace.
Omnia Pro Iesu Per Mariam!!

Thursday of the Tenth Week in Ordinary Time

Reading I
2 Cor 3:15—4:1, 3-6

Brothers and sisters:
To this day, whenever Moses is read,
a veil lies over the hearts of the children of Israel,
but whenever a person turns to the Lord the veil is removed.
Now the Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is,
there is freedom.
All of us, gazing with unveiled face on the glory of the Lord,
are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory,
as from the Lord who is the Spirit.

Therefore, since we have this ministry through the mercy shown us,
we are not discouraged.
And even though our Gospel is veiled,
it is veiled for those who are perishing,
in whose case the god of this age
has blinded the minds of the unbelievers,
so that they may not see the light of the Gospel
of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
For we do not preach ourselves but Jesus Christ as Lord,
and ourselves as your slaves for the sake of Jesus.
For God who said, Let light shine out of darkness,
has shone in our hearts to bring to light
the knowledge of the glory of God
on the face of Jesus Christ.

Responsorial Psalm
Ps 85:9ab and 10, 11-12, 13-14

R. (see 10b) The glory of the Lord will dwell in our land.
I will hear what God proclaims;
the LORD—for he proclaims peace to his people.
Near indeed is his salvation to those who fear him,
glory dwelling in our land.

R. The glory of the Lord will dwell in our land.
Kindness and truth shall meet;
justice and peace shall kiss.
Truth shall spring out of the earth,
and justice shall look down from heaven.

R. The glory of the Lord will dwell in our land.
The LORD himself will give his benefits;
our land shall yield its increase.
Justice shall walk before him,
and salvation, along the way of his steps.

R. The glory of the Lord will dwell in our land.

Gospel
Mt 5:20-26

Jesus said to his disciples:
"I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that
of the scribes and Pharisees,
you will not enter into the Kingdom of heaven.

"You have heard that it was said to your ancestors,
You shall not kill; and whoever kills will be liable to judgment.
But I say to you, whoever is angry with his brother
will be liable to judgment,
and whoever says to his brother,
‘Raqa,' will be answerable to the Sanhedrin,
and whoever says, ‘You fool,' will be liable to fiery Gehenna.
Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar,
and there recall that your brother
has anything against you,
leave your gift there at the altar,
go first and be reconciled with your brother,
and then come and offer your gift.
Settle with your opponent quickly while on the way to court with him.
Otherwise your opponent will hand you over to the judge,
and the judge will hand you over to the guard,
and you will be thrown into prison.
Amen, I say to you,
you will not be released until you have paid the last penny."
