Comet Tempel 1 as seen by the Deep Impact impactor targeting sensor at 07:44 UTC on July 3, 2005. This image was taken 1 hour 37 minutes after the impactor was released from the flybycraft and is displayed on a logarithmic scale. The impactor was 808,478 kilometers (502,388 miles) away from the comet when the image was taken.

I really wish I had a telescope and it was a clear night for viewing this evening so that I could see the Deep Impact encounter with the Comet Tempel 1. I will end up watching the encounter online like many tonight which will be fun but not quite the same. As of the time of this posting Deep Impact is set to crash into the comet in about 5 hours and 40 minutes. A link to the NASA website is furnished here so that you can see the neat 'fireworks' display online and read up on it. The image in this posting is one that NASA released for the press and others and is of the Comet Tempel 1 as seen from Deep Impact as of a couple hours ago. Since the kids in the States do not have school tomorrow because of the holiday it might be a fun thing for everyone to stay up a bit late and watch tonight. For parents in other nations you still might want to consider allowing the kids to watch this once in a lifetime event. As I stated earlier I will watch the impact online and then try to grab some sleep before going to my regular Adoration time with Our Lord Jesus Christ at 3am tonight. I will remember you all in my prayers tonight and I ask that you remember me in your prayers also. Have a great evening and enjoy the show tonight.

"Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice; let them say among the nations: The LORD is king." - 1st Chronicles 16: 31

"The heavens declare the glory of God; the sky proclaims its builder's craft. One day to the next conveys that message; one night to the next imparts that knowledge. There is no word or sound; no voice is heard; Yet their report goes forth through all the earth, their message, to the ends of the world. God has pitched there a tent for the sun; it comes forth like a bridegroom from his chamber, and like an athlete joyfully runs its course. From one end of the heavens it comes forth; its course runs through to the other; nothing escapes its heat. The law of the LORD is perfect, refreshing the soul. The decree of the LORD is trustworthy, giving wisdom to the simple. The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart. The command of the LORD is clear, enlightening the eye. The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The statutes of the LORD are true, all of them just; More desirable than gold, than a hoard of purest gold, Sweeter also than honey or drippings from the comb." - Psalm 19: 2-11
