The Mother of God and Country Music

Friday, September 16, 2005
Friday, in fact the last few weeks have been very difficult for me. The reality of spiritual warfare is coming home for me. I was lamenting my own cross that I currently bear and had just finished emailing a friend and had started Vespers. I was struggling with beginning my prayer and I do what I usually try to do and that is turn to Our Lady to help me with my prayer to Her Divine Son. I had just finished a couple Hail Mary's and the old country song popped into my head "I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden". I laughed and I knew Our Lady was telling me something about bearing my crosses. She knew just the right thing to do because that was enough to help me have a very productive time in prayer. That my friends is God's Grace working through Our Lady of Grace who I guess likes a bit of country music. I hope and pray I did not offend anyone with that. Our Lady knows just how much I love her and would never want to displease either her or God. Seriously though, the Mother of God came through for me, yet again in a very big way today. I was really having some difficulties in prayer and was growing weary of the struggle but God is that Merciful that He gave us Mary to help us through. The grace I received from suddenly thinking of that old song was enough to push me a bit further up my ascent of Mount Carmel. The weird thing is I don't listen to country music and I have not heard that song in years.
Thank you Blessed Mother for the help today, help me to serve your Divine Son Jesus better all my days.
Omnia Pro Iesu Per Mariam!!
