Praised be Jesus Christ!! Now and Forever!!
One of the Responses during Vigils (OoR) today came from the Gospel of St. John 12: 35, 36; 9: 39. In the passage Our Lord tells us to walk in the Light while you still have Light, or the darkness will cover you. I thought of how many times in the course of our lives that we are given the grace of God's Light and His call to each of us to turn and follow Him. Hopefully in the past we have responded to the Light of Christ. I think though what matters most is not whether we responded then or not but how we respond now. I think the evil one wants us to dwell in our past mistakes and errors so that we don't respond today. I have said it before and I am just paraphrasing the words of others but I think that the devil dwells in the past and in the future and it is Our Lord who calls to each of us in the present moment. St. Gianna Molla had a wonderful phrase where she said that we commend the past to Divine Mercy, the future to Divine Providence and live for God in the holiness of the present moment. If the evil one can get us to focus on the past or on the future and we fail to respond today in a better way to Christ then the devil furthers his agenda towards the loss of our souls. Today is a new opportunity to respond to God's Grace and Mercy- today is our acceptable hour of salvation for each of us. Yesterday is done for good or ill and tomorrow is uncertain but today we can begin anew in prayer and come to know Christ. If we confess our sins then those are gone and we have found Mercy. If we place our trust in Jesus Christ for the future we have found hope. We have to respond today in a new way- each of us. Are we embracing Christ and His Truth and His Mercy in this gift of the holiness of the present moment or are we embracing the evil one by holding on to the past or having anxiety about the future. The reality of the Light of Grace from God breaks through the darkness of our past failings and future fears and brings Mercy into our lives today. It is hard to listen to God if our minds are filled with junk from the past or the future and the evil one knows that. My prayer is that we all respond to Our Lord today so that the dark areas of our lives can be shattered through the power of the Cross and Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Like the poem states we gather our rosebuds while we may for old time is still a flying.
Omnia Pro Iesu Per Mariam!!

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful and enkindle in them the fire of Thy love.

V. Send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created.
R. And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.

Let us pray. O God, Who didst instruct the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant us in the same Spirit to be truly wise, and ever to rejoice in His consolation. Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
