Put on Christ and turn off the television

Monday, November 07, 2005
These two passages keep coming back to me today so I thought I would pass them on to you. I think of the first passage and it reminds me that it is not God's Will that has to be conformed to us but rather through prayer, penance and fasting our will must be conformed to God's Holy Will. That is the source of lasting happiness and the beginning of holiness. The flesh that St. Paul speaks of is not just the sins of the flesh (lust ect.) it is also unhealthy attachments to television, books, people, things, money, fame and human respect. We have to crucify ourselves and as St. Paul says put on Christ. We do so in prayer, in frequent Adoration, in frequent Confession and frequent Eucharist. Today let us strive to better put on Christ and cast off ourselves and live as children of the Light.
Omnia Pro Iesu Per Mariam!

"Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect."
+ St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 12: 2

"Love does no evil to the neighbor; hence, love is the fulfillment of the law. And do this because you know the time; it is the hour now for you to awake from sleep. For our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed the night is advanced, the day is at hand. Let us then throw off the works of darkness (and) put on the armor of light; ...But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the desires of the flesh." + St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 13: 10-12, 14
